We're calluna

Here at Calluna we are always looking for new ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with. We feel incredibly fortunate to work with some seriously talented vendors in the industry, and we want to show them off to you in our new Calluna Community Series! We will sit down with some of the fabulous vendors of Colorado and get to know about them, their business and what life is like behind the scenes. Stay tuned for more!

This week for Calluna Community we sat down with Jill Livingston and enjoyed some deliciously good red wine!

Cheers! Xo, Calluna

MEET JILL LIVINGSTON (Owner of Eclectic Hive)

Describe what you do?  “Run like crazy. I own an event design and inventory rental company for the special events industry.  We work with clients to design their event in a way that represents them in both style and personality.  My day is never the same.  You may find me in the design studio with clients, collaborating with my team of designers, involved in the community through various organizations and boards, or at events across the western states.”

What is your idea of a dream project?  “This is two-fold.  Any designer would probably say working on a project while having creative freedom is a dream project.  But the icing is to collaborate with other industry partners where we learn and grow from working together and know that the project wouldn’t have been complete without that experience together.  That’s the magic!”

What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked/attended?  “Although I still cry at every wedding we produce and each keeps a part of me, there is one that stands out undoubtedly and that was my sister’s wedding.  She got married in Tuscany at a villa in the country.  It was the first trip out of the country for several in my family which was an adventure in its own.  It was the first wedding in our family.  The first daughter for my father to give away.  I am sitting here with my heart thumping remembering how I felt, watching them have a few moments together before he walked her to the altar.  She was radiant, he was in awe. (Still today, she is the most gorgeous bride I’ve ever seen). There were only 14 guests.  The food, the setting, the intimacy can never be forgotten.”

What does your morning routine look like?  “Up at 6:30a (be it by my 2 year old River or one of my cats, Ripley).  I brush my teeth first.  Feed cats.  Then I make cappuccinos for my husband and me and give the foam to our son in his mini espresso cup (he likes cinnamon on top).  We try to have our coffee and foam together for a few minutes before the day begins.  Cook breakfast WHILE putting on my makeup.  Answer morning emails while doing both.  Change clothes.  7 or 8 times before landing on the first outfit.  Sometimes I think about doing my hair.  Sometimes I’ll actually do my hair.  Run out the door, River in tow, second coffee in mind.”

What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?  “Layered textures, more color, more prints, modern mix with timeless traditions.”

What advice would you give to a younger you?  “Read more.  Learn more.  And don’t say EVERYTHING that you are thinking!”

What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?  “Knowing new opportunities are on the horizon.  My team (and I) get the most excited when there is something new on the horizon.  New clients, new challenges, new designs, new opportunities.”

What is your favorite cocktail (and what are you drinking tonight?) “Usually starts with red wine (tonight was ZD Cabernet) and ends with a night-cap of an “Old Manhattan”. My concoction that combines a few characteristics of the Old Fashioned with the Manhattan. I serve it over a square ice cube, drop in a pair of Luxardo cherries, and in the winter finish it with a sprinkle of cloves.”
