We're calluna

We are so so excited to introduce the newest member of our team to all our lovely readers! Kristen Kennedy has joined the Calluna Crew as our summer intern and Event Assistant. She is an ahhhhmazing addition to our team and thus far has been so helpful by jumping in feet first in the middle of wedding season. We love when we get the opportunity to work with summer interns to share our knowledge but also learn a thing or two from them. Especially on the social media front! Kristen attends the University of Colorado and just returned from an epic semester abroad in London (don’t worry we are all jealous of her). She is an avid blogger, Instagramer, and foodie – read on to catch up on what she likes and why we are fortunate to have her here! xx, Calluna

What is your favorite part of the wedding day? I would have to say that my favorite part of the wedding is the father-daughter dance. After all of the excitement of the special day, it is so heart warming to see the bride and her father have those moments of calm together. I also love when there is a mother-son dance, I think it’s the perfect way to recognize the importance of both the bride and the groom and their families all together.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you. I was convinced for a while that I wanted to be a chef. The food network is virtually the only channel on TV that I watch, and it was my dream to be a contestant on one of those cooking reality shows (I could watch chopped all day long!) Even though that is no longer my life goal, I cook whenever I can and love to experiment with new recipes and food trends. I am currently very into my new spiralizer; zucchini noodles have become a staple in my diet.

What wedding trends are you loving this season? I love that couples are starting to step away from traditional wedding trends. As much as I appreciate tradition, I love seeing innovative elements at weddings like a s’mores bar instead of a cake, or a box where guests can write cute date ideas for the new couple instead of a guest book. I just think it’s so great when couples can step outside of the box and let their personalities shine with tiny details.

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why? I recently travelled throughout Europe and fell in love with Lisbon, Portugal. The weather was perfect, the people were incredibly friendly and the food was to die for. I had some of the most amazing pork & clams, Portuguese pastries and sangria, it is a must see for anybody traveling in Europe.

What is one piece of clothing everyone should own? A quality leather jacket is a must in any closet. I love how versatile they can be; I can wear them with my casual jeans or with a little black dress for a night out on the town. I am also a strong believer in a pair of comfortable heels. Yes those two words don’t normally go together in the same sentence, but if you can find a pair of sturdy and chic heels that don’t give you blisters, they are worth the investment.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? I am a bit obsessed with the holidays and holiday food. I am that annoying person that thinks its Christmas right after Thanksgiving ends, and starts watching Christmas movies in October. I just love everything associated with the holidays, there is nothing better than a warm cup of hot apple cider and board games around the fire!

And if that’s not enough, here’s a little more about Kristen:

Kristen is a San Francisco native, but Colorado lover. She is a soon to be senior at the University of Colorado and an event enthusiast. Her love for weddings began with her favorite movie, “The Father of the Bride” and has since grown through her work with EAT Catering and her position as Event Director of her sorority. Kristen loves the energy and excitement of any event, and thrives off of the happiness and satisfaction of the guests. She believes no detail is too small, and will go the extra mile to make everybody comfortable.

Keep up with Kristen and all her adventures!
