What is your favorite part of the wedding day? The exchange of vows, hands down. There is no greater joy as a planner (and person) than to witness two hearts committing to one another for a lifetime. Vows are poetic because they are personal and meaningful – a romantic sentiment that often make my eyes well up with happy tears. I look forward to it every single wedding. Simply put, I love love!

What wedding trends are you loving this season? Wild bouquets and fun calligraphy. I typically lean in to soft, romantic aesthetics airing on the side of tradition. Acting as accents, floral and paper goods are two brilliant ways to express creativity and personality.

I love the earthy, fresh-from-the-garden look and feel of floral. There’s nothing more spectacular than the organic shapes and textures of florals + greenery blossoming out of an arrangement, demanding to be admired. I am currently crushing on Lana and Christine‘s design direction, crafted from the ever so talented Violet Floral Design and Cori Cook. Amazing work.

I am also a sucker for beautiful calligraphy. We recently hosted a Manzanita calligraphy workshop which completely opened my eyes to this incredible art. I follow a range of calligraphers on Instagram and love to study their individual style and talent. There are so many opportunities to incorporate funky calligraphy into a wedding in a tasteful and creative way. In my book, it is a detail worth celebrating.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you. I love to sew! I asked for a sewing machine on my 10th birthday and was hooked. I sewed quilts, bags, and even started making my own clothes. For awhile, I was convinced I was on the fast track straight to NYFW.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? Yoga. Bikram yoga, power yoga, yin yoga, yoga sculpt, I love them all. In my 10 years of practice, I’ve never regretted showing up on my mat.

What is a piece of clothing everyone should own? You can’t go wrong with trusty basics. Pearl earrings for class, a leather jacket for stylish function, and a fun scarf for a splash of color.

What three traits define you? Humble, hardworking, giggly.

Keep up with Melanie’s adventures here.
